Ford Expedition for Big Families and Big Weekends
The Expedition is the SUV St. Louis families call when the minivan is out of the question and the Explorer feels a little tight. It seats up to eight, tows a real trailer and comes in two lengths. Browse the Expedition and Expedition MAX models in our inventory above, then use this guide to sort out trims, seating and towing before you head to Dave Sinclair Ford on South Lindbergh. Our team is glad to pull a couple of trims up front so you can compare them side by side.
Ford Expedition Trims and the MAX Option
| Trim | Powertrain | Highlights |

| Active and MAX Active | 3.5L EcoBoost V6, 4×2 or 4×4 | Seats up to eight, Ford Split Gate, wide panoramic display, BlueCruise optional |

Ford Expedition Pricing and Payments in St. Louis
Expedition MSRP varies quite a bit between Active and King Ranch, and again between standard length and MAX, so look at the live price on each SUV in the feed above. Check current Ford offers on our new specials page and ask about Ford X Plan, A/Z Plan and our military and first responder programs. Our finance team can lay out loan and lease options side by side.
Not every family needs this much SUV. The new Ford Explorer gives you three rows in a smaller footprint that is easier to park in Kirkwood or the Central West End.

Ford Expedition Questions From St. Louis SUV Shoppers
What is the difference between the Ford Expedition and the Expedition MAX?
They share the same powertrain, tech and interior design. The MAX rides on a longer wheelbase, and that extra length goes mostly to cargo space behind the third row. If you regularly fill all three rows and still need room for luggage, hockey bags or a big Costco run, the MAX is worth a look. If you park in a tight garage, the standard length is easier to live with.
What trims does the new Expedition come in?
The current lineup includes Active, Platinum, Tremor and King Ranch in standard length, plus MAX Active, MAX Platinum and MAX King Ranch. Active covers the essentials with seating for eight. Platinum adds leather, ventilated seats and premium audio. Tremor is the off road version, and King Ranch brings Del Rio leather and western styling. Our inventory above shows which of these we have right now.
What is the Ford Split Gate on the Expedition?
Split Gate is the Expedition’s two piece tailgate design. You can open the upper glass portion for quick access, or open the lower gate to use it as a ledge for sitting or loading, which comes in handy at soccer games and tailgates in the Busch Stadium lots. Available Open On Approach can open it hands free when you walk up with the key fob.
How many people does the Ford Expedition seat?
Up to eight. Active and MAX Active come standard with seating for eight. Platinum and Tremor come standard with seven seats using second row captain’s chairs, with eight passenger seating available. King Ranch is a seven seat SUV. Captain’s chairs make it easier for kids to climb into the third row, while the bench gives you one more seat for carpool days.
How much can a Ford Expedition tow?
It depends on the trim, 4×2 versus 4×4, wheel size, standard or MAX length and whether the Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Package is on the SUV. Ford publishes ratings by configuration on ford.com, and the label in the door jamb shows the cargo and passenger limits for that exact vehicle. Tell us what you pull, whether it is a pontoon to Lake of the Ozarks or a camper, and we will match the right build.
Should I get an Expedition or a truck for towing a big camper?
For a mid size camper or boat with the whole family along, an Expedition with the tow package handles it well. If your trailer is heavy, a fifth wheel, or you tow every weekend, an F-150 or Super Duty pickup is built for more weight and gives you a bed for gear. Bring your trailer’s weight and hitch type, and we will help you compare honestly.
Which engine does the Expedition use?
Every Expedition uses a 3.5L EcoBoost V6, so you will not find a base engine that feels underpowered. Tremor gets the High Output version of that engine as standard, and it is available on Platinum and MAX Platinum. There is no V8 or hybrid in the current Expedition lineup. The twin turbo V6 has plenty of pull for merging onto I-270 with a full load, and you can feel the difference on a test drive.
Is the Expedition Tremor a real off road SUV?
It is the most trail ready Expedition Ford offers. Tremor comes with standard 4×4, the High Output V6, all terrain tires, an electronic locking rear differential, Rock Crawl Mode and extra ground clearance. That setup makes sense for hunting land, gravel roads in the Ozarks and campgrounds with rough access. On pavement it still drives like an Expedition, so it works as a daily family hauler too.
Does the Ford Expedition have BlueCruise?
Yes, BlueCruise is offered across the Expedition lineup. It allows hands free driving on prequalified sections of divided highway while a camera watches that you keep your eyes on the road. It is optional on Active and MAX Active, comes equipped on several higher trims, and King Ranch includes a plan period with purchase. Continued use after any included period requires a paid plan. Ask us how it is set up on a specific SUV.
What tech comes inside the new Expedition?
The dash is built around a wide panoramic display that stretches across in front of the driver, paired with a large center touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are part of the package, and Platinum adds a Flex Powered Console for storage and charging. King Ranch steps up to Bang and Olufsen Unleashed audio. Sit in a couple of trims to see which layout fits your family.
Is the Expedition worth it over the Explorer?
It comes down to how often you use the third row and what you tow. The Expedition has a larger third row, more cargo room and more towing ability, plus the MAX option. The Explorer is smaller, easier to park and usually costs less to buy and fuel. If adults ride in the back row often or you pull a sizable trailer, the Expedition tends to win.
How do I get the price of an Expedition at Dave Sinclair Ford?
Each Expedition and Expedition MAX in our inventory feed lists its live price based on its trim and packages. Current Ford incentives appear on our new specials page. Ford X Plan, A/Z Plan, and our military and first responder programs may lower your cost if you qualify. Call or message us with a stock number and we will send a full breakdown before you come in.
Can I order an Expedition in the color and trim I want?
Yes. If the Expedition you want is not on our lot or arriving soon, we can place a custom factory order with Ford using the exact trim, color, seating and packages you choose. Timing depends on Ford’s production schedule and your build, so we give you an honest estimate when you order and keep you updated until it arrives at the store.
Is Warranty Forever included on a new Ford Expedition?
Yes, on qualifying new Expeditions we sell, at no added cost. Big SUVs rack up miles fast on school runs, I-44 road trips and camper towing, which is exactly when powertrain coverage earns its keep. The 4×4 transfer case is part of it on equipped models. Follow the maintenance intervals in the agreement and keep records, and you are covered for as long as you own it.
Can Dave Sinclair Ford service my Expedition without me driving in?
For many jobs, yes. Mobile Service sends a Ford technician to your home or office for select maintenance like oil changes. Ford Pickup and Delivery can collect your Expedition, bring it to our South Lindbergh service center, and return it when the work is done. For bigger repairs or body work, our service team and on site Certified Collision shop take care of it here.
